Building around the box.

One of my life’s great challenges has been my internal struggle between my creative passions and vision, and a steadfast desire to add structure, logic, and order to the things that I do. These internal desires, seemingly at odds in much of life, find themselves played out in the art that I create: the mediums I use are often modular and rigid, creating an initial framework from which I can then build within and around.

To quote one of my earliest design influences, “restrictions breed creativity”, and I take that to heart when seeking a creative output. Whether that is attempting to generate particularly obtuse dashboard logic, or ensuring accurate spacial representation in a LEGO model, I find the challenges present when working within a system of rules and reason the most enjoyable way to create art.

The projects below capture just some of my creative output- while my work is largely a personal endeavor, I’m proud to know my work has been featured in multiple businesses, and been used as inspiration for others. My creations often also incorporate my other interests; a LEGO model of an imagined whisky distillery, or an Excel sheet that can track every facet of a D&D character during a multi-year campaign.
